Wright Chapter

Society of Flight Test Engineers (SFTE)

The Wright Chapter was re-established in 2008 by flight test professionals in the Dayton area.  SFTE members and guests meet regularly to discuss past and present flight test projects.  The Chapter contributes its talents to Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, local industry and academic institutions as they are once again discovering the flight test process in developing the unmanned aircraft, sensors and advanced airborne communications of the 21st Century.

The original Wright Chapter was established in 1975 and was associated with the 4950th Test Wing which conducted research and development test operations.  That mission was transferred to Edwards AFB and shortly after the Wright Chapter was closed in 1993.

Today, the chapter provides  members an opportunity to maintain professional networks and support others interested in understanding flight test engineering.  Members volunteer their expertise at local schools and universities.  We also enjoy a close working relationship with the Great Lakes Section of the Society of Experimental Test Pilots and frequently participate in joint events.

Please contact any Chapter officer for more information.  Guests are welcome at most chapter events.  If you are an SFTE member new to Dayton, please consider contacting SFTE to associate your membership with the Wright Chapter.

Chapter Logo:  We have adopted the unit patch for the Wright Field Army Air Corps  Aviation Research Development Center.  This is the patch on Lt Col Doolittle’s flight jacket in the photo taken on the deck of the USS Hornet in April 1942.
